Recently, as we were planning the 2016 – 2017 season we came up with a new way to talk about the show from the feedback we get from the audience. Simply, experiencing The Actual Dance will make you laugh and cheer, and think and feel. Here is another way to look at that (quotes are lines from the play):
Laugh: “Humor and sex fix everything.”
Cheer: “Sam, it’s not the cancer! It’s not the cancer!”
Think: “I wonder if two twenty year olds understood what love really means.”
Feel: “I understand now that The Actual Dance will be the ultimate consummation of our love.”
Our mission is to bring The Actual Dance to all those who need to see it…every person who has had a life experience facing the mortality of someone they love. You can be part of the team that helps bring this experience across America. Here are two simple things you can do right now:
- Help us get a booking in your community. The Actual Dance is perfect for intimate spaces. Your local community theater or even your big Convention Center probably has a space that seats anywhere from 50 to 500 audience members. Perfect size for our show. Or you belong to a church or synagogue or civic group that has a social or meeting hall. Help us identify the right person, make an introduction and we will do the rest. We can book directly e-mail the details to The Actual Dance or through our agency, Producers, Inc. Milt Orkin.
- Support us with a tax-deductible contribution. The Actual Dance fiscal agent is Artistic New Directions (AND), my artistic home for nearly 15 years. It was at AND summer retreats that I began my artistic journey. Through AND I have had the honor to study with some of the world’s best. Gary Austin, a co-founder of The Groundlings. Jeffrey Sweet a prolific author and playwright. Michael Gellman, who was a long time senior faculty member at Second City in Chicago, and Carol Fox Prescott, my coach and mentor who has taught me what it means to breathe. And it is where I met my dramaturg and partner in developing The Actual Dance, Gabrielle Maisels, and my director, Kate Holland. This all is made possible through the efforts of Kristine Niven and Janice Goldberg, the Artistic Co-Directors of AND. You can make your tax-deductible contribution to support The Actual Dance by clicking here. All gifts of $100 or more will be recognized here.
All the Best in 2016 and thank you!
Sam
